Black Belt

I began my martial arts career in 1983 looking for a functional form of self defense. I began in a Japanese form of karate called Goju Ryu that led me to the 1980s Aikido craze with Steven Seagal. My instructor trained with Bob Koga who created the weaponless defense system for the Los Angeles police department in the 1980’s. I currently hold a 5th degree black belt in Japanese Jujutsu and a 4th degree black belt in Goju Ryu karate.

Like many others I discovered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu through the first UFC. I traveled to Torrance, CA where I trained at the Gracie Academy in the late 90’s and began training BJJ formally December 2005. I first discovered Chris Haueter through the SBG VHS tapes! When I saw him at the 2009 PANs, I hunted him down to introduce myself! My wife & I have been training with the Haueters’ since December 2010. I received my black belt from Chris in October 2016.
