Nathan started his martial arts journey at the age of 7; taking up Kodokan Judo under his step-father. He is a former folkstyle and Greco-Roman wrestler and coach.

Nathan is the owner of the Shasta BJJ Club/ Mendes Jiu-jitsu in Northern California. He is the co-founder of the Law Enforcement Combatives Course and teaches across the country.

Nathan served for six years in the U.S. Marine Corps, deploying to Ar Ramadi, Iraq in 2004 with the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force.
